It seems like only yesterday when the world balked at Google buying up YouTube for several billion dollars. What an intelligent purchase they made on that fateful day. Well, with our gaming community continuing to grow, so I've put up a few compilation videos on YouTube for our members and "wanna be" SPIDERs to enjoy. This is what our community is all about; fun, fun, and more fun.
The Dalí project, which was originally conceived 3 years ago back in 2008, has now been officially shelved. This was a narrative plus artwork project that never made it off of the workbench. Simply put, it just wasn't a strong enough idea to spend real time on. Some of the art for the project turned out well, which may never be released given the substantial time gap. Also, Elements: Origins is still on hold, but I would hope to revisit that to polish it off some day. For now, my focus will continue to be on building SPIDER to be a close-knit family of like-minded gamers.
Recently, I've been having a real blast with our buddies in SPIDER. Two games come to mind as stand-out titles. Firstly, there is Magicka. With 2-3 friends at your side, Magicka becomes a hilarious, spell-slinging, gut-laughing adventure which pits you against the unknown. Secondly, there is Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam. This expansion has beaten it's parent title with improved pacing, better weapons, and a totally immersive jungle environment. If you must play only one game this year, make it BF:BC2 Vietnam.
As many of my close friends know, I get a buzz from organising social gaming events. In this vein, I have recently dedicating some time to taking over the reins of a relatively new gaming community called SPIDER. It's an open gaming community, so everyone is invited to play with us. We are currently playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Minecraft (Alpha), and have just ressurected Left 4 Dead 2. If you're interested, check us out at SpiderGaming.org, where you will find more information on the regular events and how to get in touch with the community.
I have been keeping myself busy recently, re-branding my professional portfolio site and playing a social boardgame called Cashflow 101 that teaches financial independence strategies for life. The real question is, how can we not afford to get out of the rat race?
The first year of marriage has passed, and with it, I have learned a lot. If you're considering marriage and you've got the right guy or girl in mind, then I definitely recommend it. It's a tremendous learning experience and having a dedicated partner in life means the ride is that much more exciting because you get to share the experience with someone who is perfectly okay with the fact that you are completely nuts.
I've spent a little time tidying up the look of the 'Home' and 'About' pages. In the process, I have adopted a new orange theme which makes for a high contrast composition. To compare the old and the new, have a look at the Zimtok5v3 link that is available on the Site Archive page.
If you haven't heard yet, I got married to Karen and built a lovely little website to capture all the news posts and uploaded photos. In other news, our joint graphic design project called Dalí is going to be delayed to 2010, but is still likely to come to life as we planned it.
After surviving an arduous 3.5 year long distance relationship, my time locked away from my other half is finally over. Karen and I will finally be together again. Here is to us! Hurrah hurrah!
For anyone interested in learning XHTML & CSS, I've put together a site template for your use that contains links to all the training materials I used to learn enough to put the revision of Zimtok5.com together. Feel free to use this code as a foundation for your own site(s) and, as always, enjoy!
Origins 021 - 030 have been released (finally, I know!). It's been a while since the last batch. I'll try to post these more frequently. Do excuse me, as learning and coding in CSS ate up the last few months' project quota.
I have just received excellent news. Karen got her UK fiancée settlement visa approved! For anyone in a long-distance relationship, my very best of luck for you. It is a long, hard road. When it's over, you'll feel like I do. Freed.
After a week of twiddling around with the fiddly bits, I can finally release this new site overhaul to the public. There are a few parts to be completed, but they're minor. Enjoy the fresh re-design! And if you like it, let me know.
I've managed to learn CSS (and not just for cheap tricks), so I've revised the main site. I'll be migrating over some of the old sites and ridding myself of my old HTML ways. Happy days!
I've made an addition to the site archive, adding 10 old websites - starting from my 1st design back in 2000.
Also, Demon Skull Clan (DSC) returns to life as a Steam Group. It was great fun to ressurect all the old websites and read through all of the old logs. Now, we can share the memories through Steam!
Here are some things to look forward to in 2009:
Origins, the Elements project explained, 1-by-1, to strip away some of the enigma; Dali, a decision-driven story by Zimtok5 & other authors; & an About page, I've gotten enough requests to merit adding a few personal details about me and my motivations to the site.
Happy New Year, everybody!
